Don’t you hate it when you buy a big tub of yogurt and forget about the expiration date? That’s me. So to help me quickly finish the yogurt without wasting, I turned it into an easy “frosting” or yogurt topping for a cake (and shared it with friends)
It’s like Greek yogurt but THICKER. Of course you can also start with using plain Greek yogurt instead of just regular plain yogurt. This recipe was inspired by “Labneh”, a Middle Eastern “cheese” that’s made by straining the liquid whey from yogurt until it’s really thick like room temperature cream cheese.
Try pairing this strawberry yogurt frosting with buttery scones, on top of soft, vanilla cupcakes, or as a dipping for fresh fruits.
🩵Ease Level & Flavor Profile

Flavor Profile: Naturally tangy & creamy with bright, fruity strawberry sweetness.

🥣Main Ingredients
Ingredient picture for strawberry yogurt frosting to be added in the future :)
- Plain yogurt (Greek yogurt works too): The creamy, tangy base that gets strained for a thick, luscious texture. Using plain yogurt is perfect for adjusting the sweetness level to your preference.
- Freeze dried strawberries: Blitzed into a powder, they pack intense fruity flavor and natural pink color without extra liquid so the frosting stays thick.
- Powdered sugar: Adds just enough sweetness to balance the tartness (skip if using pre-sweetened yogurt!). Dissolves instantly for a smooth finish.
- Vanilla extract (optional): A splash enhances the strawberry flavor with warm, cozy depth.

Substitutions/Variations
Want to switch it up? Here are some variations and substitutions you can try✧ദ്ദി( ˶^ᗜ^˶ ):
- No freeze dried strawberries? No problem! Try other freeze dried fruits like mango, blueberries, apples, or raspberries for other delicious options!
- Try other flavors. Instead of vanilla extract, you can substitute for other suitable flavors like orange, lemon, blueberry, or coconut to pair with the strawberry flavor.
- Make it Greek Yogurt. Use Greek yogurt for extra tang and thickness. It'll become a Greek yogurt frosting instead :)

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1-2 weeks. I don’t recommend freezing or keeping at room temperature.
⏲️Overwhelmed? Make Ahead!
Do you feel overwhelmed or have a busy schedule but still want to bake this recipe?! Here is a general idea of the work flow I would do as a professionally trained baker (with a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts) and years of experience in NYC bakeries to help you have more fun!⬇٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´-
(Spoiler (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚: most bakes in professional kitchens/bakeries are broken down into steps for efficiency. We usually aren't measuring, mixing, baking EVERYTHING on the same day. Some components are prepped beforehand so don't feel bad if you feel like you aren't accomplishing what you'd like to in your baking journey, you just haven't figured out the right system yet! Let me help you with that~⋆˙♡)
You can combine any of the work days to suit your timeline. The idea is you really don't have to make everything in ONE DAY! My recipe card below is written in a way to make and bake this in one day for recipe structuring purposes (as well as reading or printing) but if I were to break up the baking steps for this recipe, this is what I would do:
˗ˏˋ ★ Day By Day Baking Steps For Strawberry Yogurt Frosting★ ˎˊ˗

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ woohoo, you did it!!! ٩>ᴗ<)و I hope this was fun and it helped you become a more confident baker ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
