✨Step By Step Instructions
Bake The Cake

Step 1: Grease and flour two 6”x3” circular cake pans. Set aside.

Step 2: Combine cake ingredients and mix until the batter is smooth. Don’t overmix!!!

Step 3: Evenly divide the batter among the cake pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes. The cake tops should spring back when lightly pressed or a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.

Step 4: Let the cake cool until just not hot to touch, then store in an airtight, heat safe container to finish cooling completely. This helps lock in the moisture and keeps them from drying out before you get to the frosting fun!
Make Buttercream

Step 1: In a microwave safe container, microwave milk (or water) with sugar in 1 minute increments until sugar dissolves.
Tip: You can also cook this syrup in a pot on the stove top.

Step 2: In another microwave safe container, microwave until the butter is soft (not melted, about 60-70F)

Step 3: With a hand or stand mixer, whip the butter until light on high.

Step 4: t low speed on the stand mixer to prevent splashing, gradually add in the sugar syrup until the mixture is fully emulsified and fluffy (about 10-15 minutes). The frosting should be lighter in color and texture when it's ready.
OPTIONAL: Colored Buttercream

Step 1: Heat about a tablespoon of buttercream in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl until melted.

Step 2: Add 1-2 drops of gel food coloring of your choice and mix.

Step 3: Add in buttercream and mix to color.

Step 4: Colored buttercream is ready! You can also optionally fill a piping bag with an open star tip or use this to frost the cake base.
Assemble The Cake

Step 1: Carefully remove cake from the cake pan. Using a cake leveler or long, serrated knife, cut the cake layers evenly so you have 4 even layers.

so even!

Step 2: Add an evenly layer of buttercream, about ¼” thick. Smooth out evenly with an icing spatula and repeat this with each cake layer.

Step 3: Cover the outside of your cake with a thin layer of buttercream to seal the crumbs. Place cake in fridge for about 30 minutes to 1 hour to set.
Decorate Cake

Step 1: Using your icing spatula, frost the chilled, crumb coated cake with buttercream and an even layer. Clean up the edges with your icing spatula and the cake board. Chill for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Step 2: With a piping bag filled with a piping tip, add your borders to the top and bottom edges of your cake. If using, add sprinkles while the buttercream is soft.

Optional: If using, add sprinkles while the buttercream is soft.

Keep in the fridge to maintain the structure of the cake but let it come to room temperature so the buttercream is soft and creamy before enjoying. You did it! Good job!
